How to get to Penang Hill East Vipassana Centre from Penang Jetty

There are many Vipassana centres in the world about 162 meditation centres. I went to the Penang Hill East Vipassana Centre last fortnight. It was situated up on the east side of Penang Hill. Initially, I thought I can just take the funicular train up Penang Hill or Bukit Bendera (check out my blog on Bukit Bendera) and get out from one the stations along the way. But.....

But it was not along the tracks of the Funicular train! It is situated
near Padang Tembak flats. Or rather the way up is from the Padang Tembak flats area.

I am from Kuala Lumpur, so I took a train from Kuala Lumpur Sentral to Butterworth train station.

Then it is crossing over to Penang by ferry. I was lucky to catch a nice view of sunrise from the ferry.

Coming out from the ferry, just walk straight out follow everybody and you will see the RAPID bus terminal. Both sides of you, right and left are filled with buses. Go to your right side or the buses that goes to the Corridor 2 Bus Routes.

Take Rapid bus number 201, 202 or 204 to Padang Tembak.

It is a RM2.00 bus fare which you drop into the ticket box next to the driver. Rapid bus displayed the name and photo of the driver. Cool, isn't it? Just tell the driver you want to go to Padang Tembak PBA (Perbadanan Bekalan Air or Water Department Office). ask him to stop for you. The bus drivers are very friendly, he stopped at the PBA bus stop and told me this is the place for me to get down.

After getting down from the bus , look towards the opposite direction. We are supposed to meet at the car park of flat number 143.

The meditation centre is situated half way up the hills. In the photo below, it is the hills behind bus as shown below.

The route going up is not easy and if we were to hike, it will take about 40 minutes! No public transport and if you are willing to drive up the zig-zag track uphill, there are limited car park spaces near the course centre gate. Most students were picked up by volunteers from this meeting place at flat no. 143 car park, and driven up to the the centre by them.

This Penang Hill East Vipassana Centre is cool naturally due to its height. Therefore, not only the air is fresh, but the view is lush green and scenic.

From here, we can see the beautiful sight of Kek Lok Si Temple and the Goddess of Mercy Statue. Passengers can also get up bus number 201 from Georgetown town center, that is from Komtar bus stop. Please contact the telephone number given in the email for further assistance.

Thank you. Be Happy.
